I chose Fukuoka because I've been to Tokyo before and wanted to see something different. I was hoping to see a smaller city (though population is still 1.5 mio), so to have less tourists and get a closer feeling of the native Japanese people. Also the Yatai (local food stalls) were promising good food.
I had a great time there, it was awesome! :) My hopes were fulfilled: I made friends with many Japanese people, they showed me their culture and for the food....there were just so many good restaurants, isakaya and other food places and bars everywhere, I didn't have to bother much taking the short walk to the Tenjin party district to see the yatai ;)
Tl;dr
I improved my Japanese a lot, met many really friendly people, had a lot of fun, saw cool places and had great food. I can recommend it to everyone and will definitely come back to Genki Fukuoka

Go there and you will come back too as I did. It is also easy to make good Japanese friends in Fukuoka. Just come a little bit out of your shell and you will find people from Fukuoka open minded and easy going.
Great food too by the way and the city is much more affordable than Tokyo, Kyoto or Osaka or any other big Japanese city.

Month-long study

I learned so much in just one month!

Review

Good Points
I studied at GenkiJACS for one month. I had previously studied Japanese in college, but had taken a couple of years off. Upon arriving at school, they administered a placement test. The classes were based off of skill and ranged from 2-6 people. The teachers rotated among the classes, which provided a variety of teaching styles and dialects (which helped improve my listening skills). The students were also awesome as there was so much cultural diversity!
Bad Points
I highly recommend GenkiJACS to someone who is serious about learning Japanese - there is class everyday and oftentimes, there is homework, so you do have to take it seriously to improve!

I would recommend beginners of Japanese to study in Genki, as a first step , to understand the Japanese culture. For students who love to do exercise for the Japanese exam, Genki may not be your cup of tea, but it is a good school for training up your conversational Japanese.

Good Points
It is convenient to arrive at the school from Hakata station that it just takes around 5 mins. There are tons of activities organized by Genki school that you wont feel bored with your Japanese study life, and you can understand more of Japanese culture by joining these activities. The teachers are nice, professional, and easy-going; I am pretty sure you can learn a lot from them. The teaching material is awesome, and it helps a lot for remembering some complicated Kanjis.
Bad Points
The school price is a bit expensive. And the school is a bit small compared with other Japanese schools.

Exactly what I was looking for

A fantastic opportunity for my family!

Review

Good Points
I live in Japan, have two teenagers, and am married to a Japanese. Before I got married I studied to an advanced level and then, being busy with work and family, I basically coasted. I wanted a program that my kids, who are at an international school, and I could attend over the summer vacation. My goal was to improve my reading and grammar skills. Genki Jacs was exactly what I was looking for because we could start and finish at a time convenient to us, young teens and middle aged mums welcomed; their thorough placement testing ensured our classes were appropriately challenging; and the teachers were always well-prepared and, along with the staff, helpful, friendly and accommodating.

I didn't rate the accommodations because we arranged them independently.

The events looked interesting enough, especially the movies, but, by my own choice, I didn't participate. That is the only reason I rated events a 4. My kids enjoyed the ones they participated in!
Bad Points
Well, it's not easy to come up with any criticisms of the program but I suppose at my level essay writing assignments would have been good practice. Also, most of the students are from Western countries and the default language outside the classroom is English. So while you will be immersed in Japanese in the classroom, if you hang out with other Genki Jacs students you might find your English improving too!
