GenkiJACS was nominated by popular vote as one of the world's star language schools (not just Japanese language school!) every year from 2009 to 2012. We are one of only two Japanese language schools in the world that are accredited by IALC, the International Association of Language Centres. We offer courses in a range of areas, including conversational Japanese, pop culture, traditional culture, and study for exams, all with an emphasis on practical work, inside and outside of the classroom. For students coming from overseas to study abroad at our language school, we can prepare a range of accommodation options including homestays and dorms, and arrange various activities for the duration of your stay. We're here to make learning Japanese worthwhile and enjoyable - that's why students return to GenkiJACS again and again!

This summer, I had the chance to study 3 weeks at the Genki JACS in Shinjuku. The possibility of learning the language from motivated Japanese teachers, making new Friends and get in touch with the culture trough different Events made my stay a special experience. The location of the school was really close to the Shinjuku station even though it was not quite easy to find it on the first day ;) So it should be some time reserved to get there on time.

Good Points
Good Points
- Great location of the School, in the middle of the busy area with lot of nice and small restaurants
- The size of the class (6-8) people supports an individual learning environment
- Motivated teacher and super friendly and helpful staff
- The teacher changed almost every day which gives great variety.
Bad Points
Bad Points / Points to improve
- Sometimes there are not all level of experience covered by separate classes which might leads to repetition
- Schoolbooks (Genki) where different from Minna no Nihongo which I used in my country so the chapters where sometimes overlapping or in different order
- No English explanation during classes– explanation was only in Japanese which took a lot time until all classmates understand the exact expression or meaning of the Japanese theory.

I spend just three weeks at Genki but it was one of the best times in my life, i meet beautiful new friends here and learned a lot in my short stay.

The classes are small, maximum 8 students so you will learn and speak a lot during the lessons. The teacher are motivated and make every lesson a little event. You are forced to speak Japanese as much as possible, which is good but when you just stared to learn the language i can be difficult so get a confirmation from the teacher for a question sometimes..

The book is really good, everything is explained and in a good structure. Bonus is also, you don't have to learn all the kanji immediately and still can continue with the studying.

Also, if you are interested in the culture and to see more from Tokyo, you can visit culture classes to get to shrines, museum or pop culture influenced areas.

Genki Jacs Language School Tokyo

.

Review

Good Points
I studied for 3 weeks at Genki Jacs in Tokyo. The staff were simply amazing. They are very friendly, helpful and will assist you in whatever you need. Classes are small and non-threatening and this makes it easier to learn. CLasses are structured into ability levels and give you the best opportunity. Whilst there the staff organised cultural trips to temples, restaurant dinners, movie nights and walking tours around Shinjuku. I would definately recommend studying Japanese here and cannot wait to go back.
Bad Points
The accomodation can be far from the school itself, however this is offset by a magnificent train system.

5 weeks at GenkiJACS in Tokyo

Good Points
The instructions the school send me beforhand were very clear and I could easily find my accomodation and the school.
When I first arrived in Tokyo I was quite overwhelmed by the city and its greatness. At Shinjuku station I saw as most people in one place ever and it made me feel so small and ignorant at first, but the people were so nice and helpfull and made me feel at home.
In school the courses were a lot of fun. The teachers speak in Japanese most of the time, which really stimulates you to speak in Japanese at any time. The teachers speak good Enlglish as well, though.
I studied Japanese at home as well, but I think in the 5 weeks I have been in GenkiJACS I have learned way more than in one year in Amsterdam.
The teachers are very funny and friendly and are willing to help you at any time.
Every Friday there is a GenkiJACS party, where you go and eat at a traditional Japanese restaurant. I can highly recommend attending those parties, as they where a lot of fun!
Also, I attended the culture-class for two weeks. In this class I had a lot of extraordinary experiences. For example we went to a museum, did a tea-ceremony and made traditional Japanese sweets!
My fellow students became my friensds so quickly and I feel like I gained friends all over the world and I still talk to some of them even now!

My accomodation was a guesthouse in Fuchu. At first I was disappointesd, because I applied for a homestay, but it turned out to be lots of fun. I met a lot of great people, foreign and Japanese, who could teach me a lot aboot Tokyo and Japan in general.
So, what are you waiting for? :D
Bad Points
The accomodation itself was a little dirty, but the residents were so nice and fun that I didn't mind.
If I had to write a bad point, it would be that I felt so sad any lonely after I had to leave Japan and GenkiJACS after 5 amazing weeks.
